Volunteer Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct & Professionalism
No Profanity or Inappropriate Language: Maintain respectful, inclusive, and professional language at all times around clients, staff, and fellow volunteers.
Respectful Boundaries: Maintain appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with the people being served. Avoid offering unsolicited personal advice or making promises the organization cannot guarantee.
Punctuality & Reliability: Arrive on time for scheduled shifts. If you are unable to attend, notify your coordinator at least 24 hours in advance whenever possible.
Dress Code: Wear appropriate, comfortable, and respectful attire that aligns with the task (e.g., closed-toe shoes for active or physical work, modest clothing).
Substance-Free Policy: Possession, consumption, or being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or unauthorized substances during volunteer hours is strictly prohibited.
Privacy & Client Protection
No Photos or Recording: Respect client dignity and safety. Do not take photos, videos, or audio recordings of the people being served under any circumstances without prior, express written consent from management.
Strict Confidentiality: Do not share full names, personal stories, addresses, or identifying details of clients on social media, in personal conversations, or publicly. What you see and hear at the site stays at the site.
No Exchanging Personal Contact Info: Do not share your personal phone number, home address, or personal social media handles with clients, nor ask for theirs.
Health, Safety & Self-Care
Prioritize Self-Care: Recognize your own limits. If you feel overwhelmed, emotionally burnt out, or unwell, step away and speak to a supervisor. You cannot effectively care for others if you don't care for yourself.
Stay Hydrated & Rested: Take scheduled breaks, eat properly before/during shifts, and stay hydrated, especially during physically demanding roles.
Follow Safety Protocols: Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines, including equipment usage, lifting limits, hygiene rules, and emergency exit routes.
Report Incidents Immediately: Report any accidents, injuries, physical hazards, or uncomfortable situations to a supervisor immediately.
Ethics & Operations
No Exchange of Gifts or Money: Do not accept gifts, tips, or money from clients, and do not offer personal monetary gifts or loans to clients.
Non-Discrimination & Inclusivity: Treat everyone—regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or socioeconomic status—with equal dignity, patience, and respect.
Stay Within Scope: Only perform tasks that have been assigned or approved by staff. Do not attempt administrative, medical, or security actions beyond your designated role.
Represent the Organization Well: When wearing organization gear or volunteering, remember that you represent the mission—act with integrity and kindness.
